Catamaran Racing for the 90s, Summary - Phil Damecour

Let’s go sailing, and let the Marine Unit know

Given the great weather a couple of our club members hit the beach on March 18, 2010 for a sail. Conditions were perfect for a spring sail with clear sun, temperatures at 19 degrees and winds at 20 km. As the day progressed the winds became very gusty resulting in a refreshing pitch poll into the lake. Both members were well dressed, wearing dry suits and appropriate gear (gloves, booties, hats) and they successfully righted the boat within minutes. They remained sailing after righting the boat. Upon returning to the beach they were met by the Halton Regional Marine Unit who had received numerous calls from concerned individuals who had seen the boat pitch pole. Although the Marine Unit recognized both members were experienced sailors and each had the necessary equipment (dry suit, lifejackets, whistles) to sail in early spring they strongly suggested we should call ahead to the Marine Unit to advice them on days our members will be sailing when there are few boats in the water. We should also advice the Marine Unit when a boat has been righted following a flip given the high probability that someone from the beach will have called 911 to report the flip. The contact numbers are as follows:

Halton Region Marine Unit

Volunteer Hours Club To-Do List

We have developed a tracking system which allows all members to capture their volunteer hours. The system is easy to use and ensures you don't miss any hours contributed. The key is to update your volunteer hours shortly after completing your task.

The Club-to-Do List has also been updated with Sign up sections under each assignment. Now there are no more excuses of not knowing what is needed at the club.
